Keeney Street to Bidwell Road, Manchester Leg
Its a miserable, gray, cold, rainy spring day in Connecticut. But did we let that stop us from walking on the East Coast Greenway? No we did not! We bundled up in our warm rain gear and headed out to check another 3/4 of a mile off of our 3,000 mile trek with a 1.5 mile out and back walk on the portion of the trail that runs along Hartford Road in Manchester. We just have one more 3/4 mile stretch from our turning point to Manchester Community College, which we plan to check off our list later this week, to connect what we've already walked and complete the 11 miles of the Charter Oak Greenway that it shares with the East Coast Greenway. (The East Coast Greenway turns south on Forbes Street in East Hartford, while the Charter Oak Greenway continues to follow Route I-84 towards Hartford for another mile or so.)Above and below, the trail is pleasantly tree-lined as it takes us between Hartford Road and I-384 from the Keeney Street intersection. This is an oft-used section of trail by locals, as it is near residential areas and restaurants. Thanks to the weather, we had it all to ourselves today.
Above, the trail crosses Hartford Road and continues, below, on Manchester town sidewalks.
Above and below, new section of sidewalk and bridge completed this past year.
Above, the Hop Brook.
Below, grape hyacinths growing in a lawn of a residence on the trail.
The trail then crosses back over Hartford Road and follows Bidwell Road to the Manchester Community College campus entrance. This was our turning point today.

10 1/2ish miles walked! We are more than 0.3% done with our journey!! (Oy! At this rate, we might finish by my 100th birthday! Fortunately, we're building up to faster rates! My goal is to finish, or be close to it, by my 70th birthday, which is September of 2035.)
