Prospect Street, Manchester to Hartford Road, via Keeney Street Leg

Whew!  Summer is suddenly here!  For one day, anyway, we're supposed to be hit with potentially severe weather later.  So we took advantage of the sun while it was shining to complete another one of those little in-between legs that aren't as easy to access.  (Bonus, the eldest child joined the girl child and myself, thanks to a canceled class.) We parked at a lot about 1/4 mile off of the trail near the intersection of Hartford Road and Prospect Street in Manchester, and walked to the trail.  The portion of the trail we walked was about 3/4 mile.

Above, information board at our jumping-on point.

Below, this section of the trail was noisy, following Rte 384 closely.  I'll bet it's nice and shady when there are leaves on the trees.  It definitely was NOT today.  I will spare you the photos of us sweating up a storm in the near-80 degree heat.  (I know that's not terribly hot, but we are no where close to acclimated to this temperature!)

Above, the trail veered away from the highway for a short segment before,

Below, coming out on Keeney Street.  It then follows Keeney Street to Hartford Road, turning left along Hartford Rd for another mile.  Today, however, we turned right to walk back on the town sidewalks to our vehicle.

This part of Hartford Road, not on the trail, but not far from it, passes in front of the historic Cheney Mills.  Our full walk today was over 2 miles, although less than half of that was actually on the East Coast Greenway.

Almost 9 miles down, and 2991-ish to go!  Yay us!  I'm proud that we didn't use the heat as an excuse to avoid walking today. 😀

  2. Aha, I've always wondered where that trail near 384 went. Not enough to investigate or walk it, but now I know lol
