Ash Street, Willimantic to Boston Post Road, North Windham Leg
It was a cool, gray day on Tuesday, with misty precipitation at times, but we found ourselves with a bit of time to kill in the Windham area and decided to walk a bit of the Greenway. The girl child and I were thrilled to welcome my middle child on our walk -- I wasn't sure I would manage to include him at all on this blog, given that he has a firm dislike of the outdoors. For consistency sake, I'm counting the "back" portion of our 2.5 mile out-and-back walk, which is the northward segment, ultimately towards Maine, even though we parked at the "end" of the trail segment we walked. Simply because we've been heading in that direction from Manchester Community College (and South towards Florida from there as well). I am quite sure that it will get way more jumbled than that as we go along, but for now it feels proper.Above, looking back towards the start of this leg on Ash Street. (You can just see it at the very end of the trail.)
Below, a memorial of some sort along the trail.
Above and below, the Natchaug River, in either direction, which we crossed soon after starting this leg.
Above and below, crossing the bridge over the Natchaug River.
Above and below, the trail crosses right through a big construction manufacturing company's yards.
Above, the trail traverses a sandy pine forest behind local businesses in North Windham before, below, turning towards the Boston Post Road near Clubhouse Road. The end of the trail here was the end of our walk for the day, a short 1.25 miles from Ash Street.
