Pomfret, CT to Coventry RI Mega-Leg (part 2)!
(Continued from Part 1) The next part of our trip had us start with a short driving leg from south Putnam to Dayville (which the Girl Child was apparently salty about for some reason I can't remember -- this is why I really need to post about these things as I do them! Also, why does she look exactly like my sister in this photo?? And no, it's not the expression! Although it might be her height 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I crack myself up.....)
ANYWAY, below is a reminder of where we're at and what we're doing. This part includes the green square in Dayville (2nd square from the top), as well as a tiny piece of trail in downtown Danielson that you can't even see on this map, and all the on-road pieces before and after those.
The day was hot and the trail was sunny, paved, way too close to the road, climbed up a big hill, and was extremely neglected. All in all, not our favorite piece of trail.

This part of Connecticut is (was?) experiencing a severe drought (as we are at home). They've since had several days with heavy rain storms. I'm not entirely sure how that may have affected their drought rating. I know at our house, we could definitely use more, and I assume that is the case here as well.
Above, getting near the end of this rotten bit of trail. Below, onward to our next on-road piece from Dayville to Danielson.
Longish on-road portion driven, time for perhaps the shortest walking leg we will have, right in downtown Danielson over the Five Mile River Pond.
Or, as the Girl Child dubbed it, "The Bridge of Arguing":
(There was some debate as to how the decking was constructed on these East Coast Greenway bridges...)
In any case, the sign says we still have over 650 miles to go to Canada, so we'd best get crackin' !
The Girl Child covers the unsightly graffiti on our next directional sign so I can keep this blog PG rated (she's very considerate). I can tell you that we did continue on with another very short drive to find the trailhead we needed to start the next couple of days' Greenway walking adventures, which I will talk about in my next post.

To be continued!! (Total miles in the next post, when we land in Coventry, Rhode Island!)
