Hampton Rd to Brooklyn Rd, Abington, Leg

Image
Back to a normal-length post, and back to walking the East Coast Greenway again after almost a month's rest for my sore knee.  The injury to my quadroceps tendon from early this summer has pretty much resolved, I'm just left with my old meniscus nemesis, which I refer to as my "usual knee problem" because it crops up every so often and causes chaos.  And of course, there's still a bunch of strengthening work for not only my knee mechanics, but my entire body, since I've been moving less and differently since the end of May.  But I feel like I'm back on track now after doing way too much walking in August! We walked this tiny half-mile bit of trail last weekend, on September 18th.  Our goal for the fall is to get out on the trail once a week and chip away at the Connecticut portions, slowly building back up to at least 3-mile legs before we take a longer, more walking-intense, road trip to walk distant legs.   In this leg, we parked at the trail parking lot...

Pomfret, CT Mega-Leg (from the end of August)

Finally posting our East Coast Greenway leg from the end of our August camping trip in Pomfret, CT.  This 4.25 mile stretch took place over the course of several days, because not only was it beastly hot, but after over a week of camping and walking, my stamina and the condition of my knee had deteriorated to the point that walking even a mile at a time was a struggle.  Some of the photos definitely reflect that.  This leg began at the trail parking lot on Brooklyn Rd and finished at the trailhead at the end of Railroad St.  I'll point out a few features of our walk along the way, but mostly will let the photos speak for themselves -- this really is some of the loveliest trail we've walked so far.    Above and below, there are many preserves and conservation tracks along this portion of the trail, which was such a refreshing change from some of the more urban/suburban walking we'd done earlier in our trip.  Above and below, we used a half mile blazed t...

Pomfret, CT to Coventry RI Mega-Leg (part 3)! *FINALLY*

Image
Oops.  Sorry?  Life has just been happening, and I never finished posting our mega-leg from our camping trip in eastern CT, not to mention the NEXT mega-leg from the same trip! So, almost a month later.... The last couple of days hiking and driving this portion of the Greenway, indicated below by the 2 lowest green squares (walking) and the blue between and below them (driving).  This completed a 45 mile segment of trail that started days before in Pomfret, CT and ended in Coventry, RI.  It only represents about a full day of walking/riding for a physically sound party of walkers, but I'm still rehabbing my knee, so am spreading everything waaaayyyyyy out.  It's not the speed, but the journey that matters!! This day, we set out from Danielson to walk half of 3 mile stretch of trail that there's just no way my knee would let me do all at once.  I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves fit the most part, since this was about a month ago, and t...
