Country Club Rd to Thompson Rd, Avon Leg

Wednesday was a chilly day with temperatures not much above freezing, but the sun made the walking pleasant.  Not so pleasant was my stupid knee.  Between having to deal with a long staircase for several days at a pet sitting job and general winter un-safeness (slipping on ice, cold in general), plus just not getting out for longer walks, coinciding with some less than ideal dietary choices over the holidays, my knee has been bothering me a bit lately.  And then I left the house without my usual everyday brace, and stupidly decided to to try the walk without it.

The intention had been to walk out and back on a 1.5 mile stretch of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, but we had to turn around about a tenth of a mile in because I was in pain.  I limped back to our vehicle and dug around and came up with a good supportive brace, and felt pretty good with it on while rewalking that first tenth of a mile again to test it out.  But I was nervous about doing the full 3 miles in that condition, and since The Map Man was with us, I took advantage of it by having him drop the Girl Child and me off at our start point at Country Club Road in Avon, and then parking at our end point at the trail parking lot off Thompson Road and walking up to meet us halfway.  It ended up being a very nice, though shorter than anticipated, walk, and we added another 1 1/2 miles to the end of our contiguous walk on the East Coast Greenway.

70.5 miles walked, 122.5 miles traversed, 2877.5 miles to go!  I'm a little nervous about not being in the best condition for an upcoming walking-heavy trip.  Just a few weeks ago I felt like I was in really good shape for this.   I guess I'll just plan to carry a variety of braces, ice packs, and anti-inflammatories, and try not to put myself in a situation that I can't get comfortably out of.
