WASHINGTON D.C. Louisiana Ave NW to Lincoln Memorial Circle SW Leg
This was just a treat of a day! Gray, but warm, and in my favorite city. What a wonderful place to walk a leg of the East Coast Greenway!! After finally finding parking (someone who knows what they're doing needs to teach me how to do DC), we started where the trail picks up an off-road leg at the intersection of Louisiana Ave NW and Constitution Ave, and completed all 2.5 miles of the trail to the Lincoln Memorial, although we took a couple of side-trips to fulfill our touristy curiousity.
The view from the start of our walk.
Above and below, The Girl Child planted our No Bad Vibes rock in the shadow of The Capitol.
Above: heading down Madison Dr NW
Above: side trip to the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. Amazing exhibits, and several hours well spent!
Above: Bubble Tea and Pretzels and The Mall/trail
National Sculpture Garden, one of my favorite DC haunts (right after the Botanical Gardens, which we went nowhere near, because we would have spent the entire day there and not done anything else)
I dragged the Girl Child away from the steps of the Natural History Museum; she dragged me away from the Museum of African American History and Culture, which was still under construction the last time I was here. We will return within the year to satisfy both of our desires!
Not caught on film, but Marine 1 whisked overhead towards The Whitehouse, heading to pick up President Biden, I would guess.
Above: can you pick out The Girl in her bright blue sweatshirt? She climbed the steps that I can no longer climb to say hey to Abe for me.
Near the end of the trail for us, above. We only needed to walk around the other side of the monument. Our bus back to our car showed up just as we arrived, so I didn't get to snap a picture at the very end.
We were BEAT -- it was only 2.5 miles of trail, but it was 4.5 miles of total walking for us! -- and the day was waning, but we took time to visit MLK's moving memorial before we headed out.
We bid DC farewell as the sun went down. I'm glad there are many more reasons to visit again soon. Maybe very soon, you never know...

76.5 miles walked, 136.5 miles traversed, 2863.5 miles to go!
