Fisher Dr to Security Rd Trail Parking Lot, Avon

Image
I know this is my 2nd post today, but now that I'm caught up,  I want to stay that way!!  The Girl Child and I were back on the trail today to connect the portion we walked yesterday to the portion we walked a few weeks ago.  This leg started at the intersection of Fisher Dr and Ensign Dr in Avon, and wove generally southward up and down hills, around bends, through parking lots, and had occassional short sections on road.  Definitely one of my most physically challenging legs so far -- so many hills!! Since quite a bit of the East Coast Greenway that we've walked so far occurs on developed rails-to-trails routes, it's been overwhelmingly flat or at least a very gradual grade.  This, by comparison, was intense.  And despite the fact that I look fairly good walking on flat stretches, up or down are both really difficult for my knees.  So we weren't breaking any land speed records out there. But we DID make it to our intended end point, the same T...

Yesterday, The Girl Child and I hit a small piece of the East Coast Greenway that runs on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Avon.  We started at a trail parking lot on Security Drive and walked 3/4 of a mile south (towards Florida!) to Country Club Rd before turning baxk due to time constraints.  We're hoping to get out today to walk the piece connecting this little segment to the rest of what we have already walked. It's getting cold for walking, but we'd like to get as much done as we can before wintry precipitation starts making trail walking hazardous.     65.75 miles walked, 117.75 miles traversed, 2882.25 miles to go!

Oops, I did it again -- discovered another leg that I never posted when I went to walk the next leg.   My bad!!  Life has been a little... lifey.  This one is from November 10th, and was extra fun because a very dear friend took a day off so she could joined us!  We started from Station Road in Hampton and headed north towards Canada for 1.5 miles to Kenyon Rd, then back.  This tested my knee out with a 3 mile trek.  It held up really well!  (So well, in fact, that I went out for 4 miles the following week -- THAT felt long, but I still got up the next day and kept on keeping on!)  The day was crisp, the trail was lovely, and the company was outstanding.  🥰 65 miles walked, 117 miles traversed, 2883 miles to go!!! There is only ONE leg remaining in Eastern Connecticut!!!

After voting and getting my adult children where they needed to be for the day on Tuesday, 11/8, The Girl Child and I headed out to the Florida-bound portion of our trail to continue that end of things.  We walked a 1.25 mile leg out and back starting in the Nod Brook Wildlife Management Area and heading south. 63.5 miles walked, 115.5 miles traversed, and 2884.5 miles to go! I just realized I've been posting the wrong miles-to-go since August!! (I reference back to my previous posts and do the math, but at some point I had a typo and replaced the "2" at the start of my sequence with a "3", trying to turn our journey of 3000 miles into a journey of 4000 miles!  Just imagine how long THAT would take us!!!) I went back and fixed all the other affected posts, and my miles-to-go is now based on 3000 miles as intended. 😀

Whoopsie!!  In preparing for our next leg of our journey I realized that I had inadvertently failed to post the last leg we walked, on October 10th.  My bad!!! This was a 1.25 mile out-and-back leg, walked with friends, on a cool but pretty October day.  The photos absolutely speak for themselves. 62.25 miles walked, 114.25 miles traversed, and 2885.75 miles to go.
