Thompson Rd Avon to Brickyard Rd Farmington Leg

Image
Yesterday we did our last East Coast Greenway leg of 2022, starting where we left off on Thompson Rd in Avon and walking the 1.5 miles to Brickyard Rd in Farmington.  It was ridiculously warm for the end of December, and a perfect day for a walk.  There were so many people out on the trail!  Great to see other Greenway enthusiasts enjoying this great trail. My knee is still tricky.  The Map Man turned back about halfway along to get the car to pick us up at the end of the leg so I wouldn't have to walk it back. 72 miles walked, 124 miles traversed, 2876 miles to go!!  Stay tuned for more distant (even warmer!) legs soon!!

Wednesday was a chilly day with temperatures not much above freezing, but the sun made the walking pleasant.  Not so pleasant was my stupid knee.  Between having to deal with a long staircase for several days at a pet sitting job and general winter un-safeness (slipping on ice, cold in general), plus just not getting out for longer walks, coinciding with some less than ideal dietary choices over the holidays, my knee has been bothering me a bit lately.  And then I left the house without my usual everyday brace, and stupidly decided to to try the walk without it.   The intention had been to walk out and back on a 1.5 mile stretch of the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, but we had to turn around about a tenth of a mile in because I was in pain.  I limped back to our vehicle and dug around and came up with a good supportive brace, and felt pretty good with it on while rewalking that first tenth of a mile again to test it out.  But I was nervous about doin...

Kenyon Rd to Rte 97, Hampton Leg

Super special friends joined us on our super special walk on the East Coast Greenway today, during mild December temperatures.  Today was the day we banged out that last 2 mile leg in Eastern Connecticut to connect the 2 pieces of trail we have walked!! All of our miles are now in one contiguous piece! (It won't stay that way for long, but we're going to enjoy the pretty map while we can!)  First map is what we walked today, Kenyon Rd to Rte 97 in Hampton.  Second map is our entire route so far.  We've completed approximately half of the Connecticut portions of the trail!! 69 miles walked, 121 miles traversed, 2879 miles to go!!
